HARARE – The health ministry in Zimbabwe says it’s struggling to contain an outbreak of typhoid.

At least nine people have been killed in Harare, recently.

Residents blame this on erratic water supply and poor sanitation.

The health department says $250 000 is needed to remove waste and sanitise the country's sewer system.

In the meantime a treatment centre has been opened to deal with the rising number of patients.

Authorities say they'll make clean water more accessible to citizens

"There is no doubt that we will not win the war against typhoid if certain conditions persist in the country, particularly the issues of safe water availability, the issues of waste disposal — those are critical to us — sewage, the issue of littering, the issue of hawkers and vendors in the streets, illegal and legal", said David Parirenyatwa, Minister of Health and Child Care.
