It’s Mugabe or bloodshed

People opposed to the President will be killed

BIKITA – Blood-chilling threats of violence were made at a Zanu PF rally addressed by Acting President Phelekezela Mphoko in Bikita West on Wednesday with senior officials openly telling the crowd that guns and the army will be used to deal with those who oppose President Mugabe's rule.

The statements appeared more inward looking as those targeted for attack were supporters of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Eyebrows were also raised that Mphoko who is acting President came by road for the rally while Mnangagwa who was in the same acting capacity when he came for the same rally two weeks ago was flown by two helicopters to Bikita.

The rally was called to drum up support for Beauty Chabaya the Zanu PF candidate for the by-election in the constituency who is facing five other candidates namely KudakwasheGopo of ZimPF, MadockChivasa of NCA, Innocent Muzvimbiri an independent, former area legislator Heya Shoko an independent, Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe's Terrence Makumbo.
Zanu PF activist Lad Ziki who is leader of the Johane Masowe weChishanu told the rally that Zanu PF is the only party with guns, Police and soldiers and it was therefore a waste of time to join opposition parties because they don't have weapons.

He also declared that Zanu PF will kill anyone opposed to the continued rule of President Mugabe who is turning 93 next month.

"Our party Zanu PF is the only one with Policemen, guns and soldiers and the party kills. If you go to these little parties that have no guns, be careful. Anything good can lead to fights and the spilling of blood," said Ziki to an estimated 3 000 people at the rally where the majority were school children.

Speaking after Ziki, Lawrence Katsiru the MP for Marondera Central Constituency who was once incarcerated for rape said Mugabe must rule for life. He said 90 is a small number as Joshua in the Bible was asked by God to go on until he was 115 years old.

"When Joshua at 85 said he had had enough, the Lord said no you will go on and on infact you are only starting now.

"The same applies to some people who say Mugabe is old and must rest, please go and tell the President that you are a blessed person and you are only beginning to lead the country," said Katsiru.

Amanasi Nhenjana, the acting Zanu PF chairman for Masvingo openly told the rally that Zanu PF was using food and agricultural inputs to campaign although vote buying is outlawed in the constitution.
Minister of State for Masvingo, Shuvai Mahofa declared that her party will win the by-election and told Mphoko not lose sleep over the plebiscite due this Saturday.
Mphoko denounced ZimPF leader Joice Mujuru and Dzikamai Mavhaire as incapable people who have no capacity to lead Zimbabwe.
Some villagers who came for the rally were not amused when Mphoko donated two incubators. They said it seemed Mashonaland and Matebelelalnd Provinces were receiving more donations than Masvingo. They complained that they always see huge donations going to these provinces on television.

"These projects should cascade to Bikita as well, we also need libraries, boreholes and electricity, we also need jobs," said Saliwe Mashanda from Mandizvidza Village under chief Mukanganwi.

The acting Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Change Saviour Kasukuwere who is also the Zanu PF political commissar acknowledged the challenges and promised to address the issue of boreholes.

Shuvai Mahofa, politiburo member Josiah Hungwe, secretary for administration Ignatius Chombo, Masvingo North MP Davis Marapira and many other senior members from the ruling party.
