CAPE TOWN – Congress of the People (Cope) leader Mosiuoa Lekota on Thursday called President Jacob Zuma “a scoundrel” who should not be allowed to address the joint sitting of Parliament on Thursday night.

“Madam Speaker, in English he is called a scoundrel. In our mother tongue he is called lemenemene. Now, we cannot hold lemenemene as a role model that the youth of our country must follow and emulate,” the former defence minister shouted in Parliament as Zuma tarted delivering his much-awaited speech

Presiding officer and chair of the National Council of Provinces Thandi Modise disregarded Lekota’s motion.

Moments later, Cope parliamentarian Willie Madisha rose and told Modise that she was "out of order".

Modise repeatedly asked Madisha to sit down. The Cope MP continued to speak until his microphone was cut off.

The presiding officer then called parliamentary protection services to remove Madisha from the house. He was quickly taken out of the house.
